Southwest Wisconsin Grazing Assistance Program

The Southwest Wisconsin Grazing Assistance Program is an effort to address the large number of requests for grazing plans in Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, and Vernon counties. This project is a cooperative effort between Southwest Badger RC&D, NRCS, and the six Land Conservation Departments in southwest Wisconsin.

The Southwest Badger Grazing Specialist assists landowners in developing managed-intensive grazing plans at no cost to the landowner. The Grazing Specialist makes an initial visit to the farm to do a walk through to determine soil types and grass species and discuss livestock movement and paddock layout with the landowner. He then develops a grazing plan for the property. When the plan has been developed it is presented to the landowner and another farm visit is scheduled to review the plan. If needed, revisions are made to the grazing plan.
